Little Rock, Arkansas; A rolling stone gathers no moss

Thursday, March 8th 2006 started like a typical day. The motorhome was broken down and we had to wait for the parts. The machine was in a garage and we had no access to it. Brian and I felt lethargic; we didn’t know what to do in Little Rock. But we felt better after a visit to Bill Clinton presidential library on University of Little Rock campus.

The exhibition presents a retrospective of the life and work of the beloved child of the region. The architecture of the building on its own is worth seeing. At the end of the tour, we learn that a mega show would take place downtown that same evening… Brian gets excited… him, usually so composed… he really wants to go, but I hesitate. Nevertheless… we decide to buy tickets; there are still a few left.

The phone rings. The repair on the motorhome is completed. We take ownership of our house back. We take a quick shower. Brian puts on his jeans, a black pullover and his black leather jacket. I put on my jeans, a black t-shirt with sparkles and my black leather jacket. We are on our way to the show. It’s out of the question to arrive late. We find our seats in the very big stadium. We have excellent seats. There are at least fifteen thousand people there.

The Alltel stadium of Little Rock is packed. 9h:05 pm. SATISFACTION… the crowd is overjoyed. THEY arrive on stage. That’s how a frenzy must feel. JUMPING JACK FLASH… the Rolling Stones come from the sky or from hell, it’s hard to say. Marijuana exhalations titillate our nostrils. HONKY TONK WOMEN… for two hours, fifteen thousand people sing, dance and clap their hands and are amazed by all the technical equipment of the mythical group. We watch, we listen and we admire the Rolling Stones.

Mick Jagger is incredible: he’s not human; he’s a giant among men, muscled and agile as a gazelle. He will keep us on the edge of our seats for two hours. The crowd of youngsters and baby-boomers is close to hysteria. Should you wonder if we liked the show? We would go back… anytime.
